Pontifical Missionary Children (PMC)

The Pontifical Missionary Childhood (PMC), locally called “Mtoto wa Kanisa”, is a worldwide Catholic movement for children ages 6–14, instilling in them a missionary spirit and love for Jesus at a tender age. Our PMC group is very active – you will see them in their green, yellow, white, and red uniforms on special Sundays. Through age-appropriate activities, these children learn that they are not too young to be disciples and little missionaries. They meet on Saturday mornings for prayer, songs, catéchisme (catechism), and fun activities that also teach them about the universality of the Church. They often hear stories of child saints or children in other countries, fostering solidarity.

PMC kids are encouraged to do “small acts of charity” in their daily life – like helping at home, being kind at school, and saving a coin for the poor. In October (Mission Month), they take a lead role in the Mission Sunday Mass by doing a little presentation or leading certain prayers. During Christmas, the PMC put on a Nativity play and go caroling, raising funds which they donate to needy children (truly practicing being “children helping children” which is the PMC motto).

In February 2025, our PMC gave a lively performance of song and dance in celebration of the St. Bakhita Feast at Mayungu, entertaining the crowd and reminding everyone that joy is at the heart of being a missionary[16]. It’s amazing to see their enthusiasm; as Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me… for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” The PMC provides a strong foundation for future Catholic adults by rooting them in faith and service early on. Many altar servers and future youth group leaders emerge from the PMC.
