Other Groups and Devotional Societies

In addition to our core ministries, St. Charles Lwanga Parish nurtures several devotional societies and specialized groups that deepen spiritual life, foster vocations, and promote active participation in the Church’s mission. These smaller apostolates complement the larger sodalities, offering opportunities for prayer, service, and discernment tailored to specific callings.

  • Altar Servers: Boys and girls who have received First Communion can join the altar servers guild. They undergo training on the Mass and serve at the altar with reverence. Serving at the altar often nurtures vocations; we take special care to guide our servers. Once a year they enjoy an outing (like a picnic or sports day) as a reward for their service. Their patron is St. John Berchmans (patron of altar servers).
  • Legion of Mary: We are in the process of re-establishing a Legion of Mary praesidium. In the past, a small group of Legionaries existed, doing weekly meetings (Rosary and apostolic works like visiting the sick). We hope to formally restart it to boost Marian devotion further. Meanwhile, many Legion spiritual functions are done by CWA or St. Anna group as described.
  • Sacred Heart Confraternity: A few parishioners have a devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and meet every First Friday for special prayers and the Litany of the Sacred Heart. This is informal but we may register an official confraternity if interest grows.
  • Vocations Club: We encourage youth and children to consider God’s call. A nascent vocations club (mostly PMC upper age and youth) gathers with priests/sister to learn about religious life and priesthood. Occasionally they visit a seminary or convent to experience and discern. Already, one young man from our parish is in seminary for diocesan priesthood, and a young lady joined a convent—fruits of a culture of vocation promotion.

Each of these groups contributes uniquely to the tapestry of our parish. We believe every parishioner “has a charism and a part to play.” By joining a group, you not only grow in your own faith but also strengthen the Body of Christ in Muyeye. New members are always welcome – feel free to reach out to the contact person or the parish office to get connected. As St. Paul teaches in 1 Corinthians 12, there are many parts but one body; so whether you sing, serve, teach, give counsel, or quietly pray, your contribution matters. Together these ministries help us live out our motto for the greater glory of God and the help of souls.

(For meeting times and contacts of each group, kindly refer to the weekly bulletin or inquire at the office.)
